Monica’s Eatery is eponymously named after the progressive, innovative, creative and generous New Plymouth local, Monica Brewster, who unabashedly loved the arts. And let’s not forget that the gallery next door is standing because of her. Monica’s Eatery embodies the spirit of this woman with much aplomb.

Monica’s is a popular destination eatery and despite the crowds, still feels like a sanctuary, a place to come and recharge before stepping back out into the world. The interior is laden with green plants; ferns drape from the rafters and large monsteras sprawl out in all directions. Big spherical pedant lights embellish the ceiling and you’ll see hints of colour from the pale blue bench seats and powder pink La Marzocco. A plethora of table options gives you the choice of a high or low perspective, sunny or shady, and some, the added benefit of sea glimpses.

Open every day from 7am til 2.30 pm, Monica’s Eatery has become synonymous with its incredible breakfast and lunch dishes. The menu is a far cry from your standard bacon and eggs.  Here you can expect to see interesting twists on classics and a playful exploration of seasonality and techniques. There’s a wood fire oven in the heart of the kitchen which cooks the flatbreads and omelettes (as well as other components), adding another dimension of flavour to these tasty creations.

The morning sun streams into Monica’s making it a glorious place to greet the day. You can savour your morning coffee, revel in the generous food and ponder what awaits you in New Plymouth. Something tells us Monica would have fallen in love with this place too.
