16 Parumoana St, Porirua

Venture out to Porirua’s harbourside and it won’t be long before you’re drawn in by the colours of the Blue Bell Club, a vibrant splash of Pasifika right on the water’s edge.

The shop is a converted shipping container and likely the most colourful you’ve seen both inside and out. The bold turquoise box, dotted with floral motifs, is impossible to miss, evoking the breezy airs of the Pacific. It’s a similar story inside, with a full spectrum of colours embellishing every corner of the store.

Pip and Ramona’s vision for starting the Blue Bell Club included providing a retail space where you can find truly unique items, and the goods here are as unique as they get. The pair are firm believers in a powerful first impression, and all of the stock is “different, colourful, one-off and handmade.” Take your time browsing the cushions, bed covers, jewellery, bags, lampshades and catalogue of additional items, hand-crafted by either Pip or Ramona or another local creator. One such local artist using the Blue Bell Club as a platform is The Colour Closet, purveyor of beautiful Pasifika dresses and other clothing. In fact, if it’s “cool and Pasifika,” you’ll likely find it at the Blue Bell Club.

With every inch of the shop exuding Pip and Ramona’s passion for Pasifika and supporting local talent, the Blue Bell Club is Porirua’s very own slice of Pacific paradise.
