If you’re wondering where Porirua locals go to get active, you'd best take a peek inside Te Rauparaha Arena. From kindy gym to HEHA (a healthy eating and exercise class for elderly persons), gym workouts to swimming lessons, this is the place to come when you feel like moving your body. Not just exercise-based however, the arena can also host lectures, business meetings, conferences, and even weddings.
Three indoor netball courts make this a popular place for school tournaments as well as national level games (the whole place fills up when the Pulse come here to compete), and when they’re not being used by the regional team, anyone can practise shooting hoops here. The upstairs gym is a clean and quiet place to come and pump out reps, either on your own or with the help of a personal trainer, while the downstairs group fit room has space for groups to get their heart rates up together.
Open seven days a week, the plethora of activities at Te Rauparaha Arena never seems to stop, and if the swimming, gymming, listening to lectures or watching sports games has you feeling hungry all of a sudden, then you’ll be pleased to hear that the onsite café offers all sorts of nice kai. A space where everyone is welcome, no matter your fitness level, age or stage of life, this arena certainly feels like a community hub of activity that is only becoming more and more popular.
