Gracefully perched on the corner of Buckingham Street, this beloved Arrowtown pub opens its doors each day, ready to greet groups of old friends and connect new ones.

Housed within a 150-year old historic building boasting a sprawling outdoor space, it’s hard to not fall under the spell of The Fork & Tap. Just ask owners Keith and Jeannie, who crossed paths with the spot in 2011 and were immediately besotted. Envisioning a gathering place that welcomed all ages, they set out to bring the community together over great fare, while backing local initiatives.

Stepping inside reveals a seamless blend of old-world charm and modern comforts. The cosy bar sits within the original heritage structure, effortlessly transitioning into a contemporary restaurant space with an open kitchen and plenty of windows to make the most of the views. Outside, a large deck area wraps around the building and leads into the garden, where established trees tower above, live music fills the air, an outdoor fireplace crackles, and bottles clink at the pop-up bar. Wild flowers in old barrels and rusty teapots only add to the whimsical charm.

Fresh uncomplicated food is The Fork & Tap’s specialty, with a simple menu that lets nature do the talking. From perfectly crisp fish and chips and free-range chicken liver pate, to succulent slow-cooked pork belly burgers and vibrant halloumi salads, it’s the sort of food one craves after a day in the mountains or a summertime trek – complemented by a selection of 19 local craft beers on tap and wines from nearby vineyards.

A sense of belonging and camaraderie runs through the veins of this establishment. Whether a long-term local or fleeting visitor, you’ll be welcomed in as one of the family.
