Sitting amongst a row of historic buildings, Wolf Coffee Roasters is a specialty small batch coffee haven on Buckingham Street in Arrotown. Open daily, it attracts a diverse crowd of locals and visitors in pursuit of a good wake-up call.

This spot is undeniably cool, without any pretense. The interior fit-out is restrained, with thoughtful elements peppered about. Kawakawa-green coffee cups cradle smooth brews, Arnold Circus stools offer a place to perch, and roasting machinery dominates the space, serving as a constant reminder of Wolf’s purpose: crafting exceptional coffee.

Coffee is – and forever will be – the hero, with a friendly team of clued-up baristas perfectly preparing every coffee order in the book. To combat any caffeine shakes, a cabinet brims with freshly made croissants, ready to be hoovered.

If you can’t quite make it to Arrowtown, fear not. Wolf supplies beans to some of the best cafes in the region, including The Boatshed Cafe and Scroggin (just to name a couple of our faves). Alternatively, bags of coffee can be purchased online for home brewing, with subscription services on offer. Catering to the region’s community of outdoor enthusiasts, Wolf has also produced ingenious drip coffee bags, perfect for any on-the-go adventure.

Transparency is important here, with the entire farm-to-cup process proudly splashed across the cafe walls. The team opts for direct sourcing to maintain quality and champion sustainable growing and farming practices – which is definitely something to get buzzed about.
