Appreciative of the time when going to the pictures was a real experience, Rubys is a beautiful time warp experience, where heavy curtains, plush velvet seating and dim lighting all pay homage to the days of early movie stars like Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly. Don’t be fooled into thinking you can’t see the latest blockbuster here though, as Rubys makes sure the films they show appeal to a wide audience, with foreign arthouse films and recent hits all showing on screen at one time or another.

Predominantly loved by a loyal local following, Rubys' customers come for the movies as much as the smiley welcome and the food service throughout the movie (order a local craft beer every 20 minutes to be delivered right to your seat if it takes your fancy). And if you’re planning on attending a film here, make sure to come early, as waiting in the lavish lounge is an experience in itself.

Two separate cinema rooms are both cosy and intimate, with the bigger room seating 37 people and smaller room, ‘the snug’, just 12. Huge leather chairs with plenty of room to curl up on and  blankets scattered throughout the room make you feel like you can really get comfortable.

Popcorn, Pringles or lollies, the best thing about watching movies is snacking while you do it, and with a sign in Rubys declaring ‘people who love to eat are always the best people’, it would be rude not to try out the famous grilled toastie, the antipasto platter or the array of sweet desserts (think aptly named desserts like ‘Sassy Sunday’ and ‘Moorish Marilyn’). Relive the days of old and make going to this theatre your next treat for a night out.
