Needing no introduction, BATS Theatre is one of Wellington’s cultural institutions. Having now been on the theatre scene for more than 25 years, BATS is one of the leading theatre venues for showcasing emerging artists from around New Zealand.

The popularity of BATS for both artists and audiences alike is evident, with up to 60 shows performed a year (sometimes 3 in 1 night!), and a huge range of artists on show. Ticket prices are always low; a deliberate ploy to make theatre accessible and encourage people young and old to get along and experience something new. What also appeals is that audiences at BATS are always intimate with no more than 80 theatregoers.

BATS has now reopened back at its original location of 1 Kent Terrace. Fully refurbished the theatre has three beautiful performance spaces, bar and foyer. A night out at BATS is a quintessential Wellington experience.
