With a delightful menu that evolves throughout the day, Amuse Snack Bar on Wellington’s Willis Street blends European aperitivo with Australasian coffee culture for an all-day, all-encompassing dining experience that’s welcoming to all.
Like any classy eatery, it all starts with the ambience, and stepping into Amuse feels more like sauntering into an old friend’s cosy kitchen. Filled with rich swathes of burgundy, yellow, and other hues from that corner of the colour wheel, it’s warm and approachable without being overly styled. Thrifted mid-century art, passed down from owner Dori’s grandmothers, lends the space a homely confidence. A bright yellow‑framed cabinet window reveals house‑baked breads in progress, and the open kitchen setup effortlessly invites you in.
As for the menu, Dori simply describes it as “ridiculously tasty small bites and light meals”. Think snacks and small sharing plates, crafted with exquisite skill but without the hefty price tag of a three-course meal. Highlights include the cardamom bun, a jambon beurre baguette, and a house-made garlic and herb roulade cheese with fresh malt and seed bread, paired, of course, with a cheeky Lambrusco. And unlike other cafes, the coffee machine stays grinding away after 3.30 pm, so rest assured, the espresso will flow well beyond the afternoon.
From early morning starts to pre-dinner bites and drinks, Amuse is truly a one-stop shop. Come when you want, come as you are, you’ll find the perfect bite no matter the time of day.
