The perfect summer afternoon doesn’t exis… oh wait, it does, and you’ll find it in Seatoun in Wellington.

Escape the CBD’s hustle and take a leisurely drive across the city, where you’ll find the makings of a classic Kiwi pastime. Huckle & Co do one thing, and they do it damn well—fish and chips, of course.

Stay true to your roots and opt for a classic fried fish—they have plenty of good old Tarakihi fillets to fill you up. If burgers are more your scene, you’re spoiled for choice. Choose from a fish burger with an onion cake, a juicy beef number or even a halloumi version. There’s also a tempura prawn goodie for those feeling like a burger with a twist.

You’ll want to pimp out your feast with all of the trimmings. The chips front offers old faves like thick-cut or shoestring fries, plus Kumara chips. You could also grab a bunch of classic greens or halloumi salad to beef things out.

Plus, we can’t forget the desserts. Controversial topic; are you daring enough to indulge in a deep-fried Moro bar?

Once you’ve loaded up the reusable supermarket bag with a bottle of soda and fried treats, make your way to the coast for dinner with a view. Across the way is Worser Bay, or head further up the peninsular to Scorching Bay.

Throw down the picnic blanket, break out the Watties, and consider your evening sorted.
