Decked out in a neon green that you just can’t miss if you’re anywhere near Lombard Street, there’s something joyfully unpretentious about Slice. Bright, playful, and full of energy, this laneway pizzeria from Mia and Tim Tracey (the team behind Pickle & Pie and Dough Bakery) brings a hit of fun, and delicious, affordable pizza, to the heart of Wellington.

The colour palette is all about freshness, lush green walls, glossy tiles, and pots of basil that you can adopt. It’s a space that feels like a party, equal parts retro and cheerful, designed for quick bites, spontaneous stops, and those in-between moments when only pizza will do.

Slice’s big idea is simple but brilliant. In fact, it really does what it says on the tin: pizza by the slice. Whether you’re after a light lunch, a late snack, or can’t decide which flavour to commit to, this spot has you covered with generous slabs priced as low as $9. The porchetta and roast potato slice has quickly become the house favourite; hearty, herby, and satisfyingly crisp-edged, but there’s always a lineup of changing specials to keep things fresh.

It’s not just about the pizza either. Sweet tooths can dig into the cannoli and pillowy maritozzi buns filled with whipped mascarpone, while caffeine lovers can grab a tiramisu cold brew for a pick-me-up that’s both dessert and drink. Add to that a self-serve station of sauces, from chilli oil to hot honey, and you’ve got a spot that celebrates flavour, freshness, and a bit of DIY flair.

A welcome slice of goodness to central Wellington, Slice isn’t trying to be fancy. It’s simply here to make you smile, feed you well, and send you back into the world a little happier (and maybe carrying a basil plant of your own).
