Pizza Pomodoro

One of the OG establishments of the famed Hannahs Laneway, Pizza Pomodoro serves another crucial function in Wellington: dishing up some of the city’s finest authentic Neapolitan pizza. The small, efficient store offers a range of rosse or Bianche (with or without tomato sauce) pizzas to take away. If you want a seat and a pint to go with your pizza, you’re more than welcome to park up at Golding’s Free Dive across the road.

Scopa Pizzeria

Considered by many to be Wellington’s original pizzeria, Scopa is a fantastic family-friendly spot serving up some of the best pizzas in town. An eclectic line-up of pizzas, coupled with a range of Italian dishes, salads, and fried sides, makes for a menu that’s perfect for sharing. Amidst one of the most renowned menus in Wellington, Ombra’s famous pizzette (plate-sized pizzas) stand out as the picks of the bunch. The menu changes regularly, but you can always rest assured you’ll be greeted with an inventive mix of flavours, with plenty of vegetarian and vegan options.

Another Wellingtonian pizza institution, Pizzeria Napoli’s home on Courtenay Place makes it the perfect place for a hearty Italian meal before hitting the town. It’s a simple proposition here: classic, no-nonsense woodfired pizzas done right. La Bella Italia

La Bella Italia was once rated one of the best pizzerias in the world - there isn’t much more that needs to be said about the place. The pizzas here do a good job of living up to that reputation, and the trip to Petone is certainly worth it. For the truly adventurous, head along on a Monday night with some mates and tuck into a metre-long pizza.
