The home of beer in Amberley, the Brew Moon Brewing Company is an independent family run craft brewery and pizzeria. Residing at premises on the historic Markham Street in Amberley, Brew Moon provides locals and travellers alike with a relaxed spot to enjoy some locally crafted beer and gourmet pizza.
Kieran McCauley and Belinda Gould started the Brew Moon in 2002 at the original brewery on State Highway One, and from there moved into their current location, an empty warehouse they refitted in 2016. Kieran and Belinda have now been joined by their sons, and the family operation takes care of every aspect of the business, brewing over 1,500 litres a week for taps, cans and keg distribution throughout New Zealand.
The Brew Moon is passionate about creating hand-crafted beer made with quality ingredients. The original Amberley Pale Ale, Darkside of the Moon Stout and Hophead IPA are still available, amongst a raft of other usuals regulars have come to love, including the Waipara New England IPA, Long White Cloudy Hazy Pale Ale and Feijoa and Raspberry sour beers. They also release seasonal beers ranging from thick, sweet Belgian Ales to tart, fruity Riesling Ales, completing their options across sixteen taps. Those looking for variety will find plenty of cider and local wine options behind the bar too. Holding an off licence as well, expect to see locals stopping by to fill their riggers or pick up some of the notorious Brew Moon cans.
Gourmet Wood Fire pizzas dominate the menu and are cooked in the front courtyard in an outdoor pizza oven, with a weekly changing special which is inspired by national holidays around the world (think Coq au Vin for Bastille Day, or dry-rubbed BBQ beef for Independence Day). Inside, you can choose from stools at the bar, a cosy spot by the fire or the high table with a view into the brewery.
A much loved addition to the local hospitality scene, Brew Moon is a great example of the family friendly neighbourhood brew pub.
