Crown & Pantry

A good old fashioned general store, Crown & Pantry in Amberley is a one-stop-shop for everything you might need for a platter and wine kind of scenario, be it a picnic, a get together with friends and family, or just something a little special for yourself.

Located at the gateway to the glorious North Canterbury wine region of Waipara, at Crown & Pantry you will find a wide selection of uber-local wines – just about every vinery of the region is represented here along with a few carefully selected numbers from further afield. 

Showcasing local goodies is naturally at the heart of it all within these walls, and on top of wine, you can expect to find an array of food products created by nearby makers. Handmade Milly’s sweets are delivered to the store by the maker herself, artisan bread by local baker Rachel Scott flies out the door on the days it’s here and can also be ordered in, there’s honey from Mt Lyford, Mt Grey olive oil from down the road and more and more and more.

The walk-in chiller offers a selection of craft beers along with your classic kiwi labels in crates, plus a number of pre-chilled whites. There’s fresh cheese and salami, and Ataahua wine chocolate to be snapped up for completion of that platter as well. And if your needs require something stronger than wine, a neat selection of quality spirits, such as Waipara Springs Gin, can be picked up from here too.

Every now and again, Crown & Pantry organises wine tasting evenings where you’ll have a chance to meet the makers and learn more about the drops they produce. It also offers a service of gift or picnic baskets, either ready-made or for you to assemble, and will even supply you with a picnic blanket if you’ve happened to have arrived here sans.
