Climb the creaky wooden stairs of the Old Boys High building at The Arts Centre and with every step you’ll sense the history of the place. Take a left on the top level and find Indigo & Provisions, a specialised fashion store inspired by traditional work-wear, heritage styles and high quality.
It’s the history and beauty of the Arts Centre that drew owner-operator Dominic Ellett to open his specialist store right here, as at the heart of his business are the unique stories behind the products he stocks. No decision has been made lightly here, with careful curating resulting in an exclusive selection of fashion and home-wear items mostly unavailable anywhere else in New Zealand.
Expect to find iconic labels such as Armor Lux, a French heritage brand known for the classic Breton stripe (worn by the likes of Picasso and Marlon Brando); Pendelton Woolen Mills, producer of high quality Oregon-made blankets in stunning designs; and Redwing Heritage, crafting the world’s best boots in the USA since early 1900s. Complementing the classics is a selection of quality New Zealand labels, such as Auckland based CHECKS, local Christchurch maker of waxed canvas accessories Common Goods, and ethical womenswear hailing from Te Awamutu - ReCreate Clothing.
There’s a true emphasis on high quality, sustainability and ethics at Indigo & Provisions. It’s a store that encourages the consumer to buy less, but better– products carried home from here are designed to be used and loved for years to come.
