Step off Manchester Street in Christchurch’s CBD and into the lobby of The MUSE Art Hotel and there is an immediate mood change. Gone is the hustle of the busy city outside, instead you are greeted by a cool calm oasis of a reception. Luxe details abound, a definite sign of things to come in the decor of each of the 40 rooms, such as the dusky pink mini hexagonal tiles on the front desk, plush velvet seating and prominent artwork displayed on the walls. Staying here you are perfectly positioned to enjoy the very best Christchurch’s central city has to offer.

The building The MUSE inhabits was designed by celebrated New Zealand architect Peter Beaven in 1961. Surviving the earthquakes, it has been lovingly restored and its mid-century vibe is reflected in the boutique hotel’s interior aesthetic. These are most certainly not your average (*ahem* sterile) hotel rooms and MUSE’s tagline; ‘a place where culture, business, and art come together” could not be more fitting. From exposed concrete beams and walls to pale pink, brass and gold details throughout the hallways and rooms, and strong pops of colour in the furnishings.

It’s clear that nothing has been overlooked at this boutique hotel and one of the most unique features about The MUSE is its collaboration with five local artists. Each artist was responsible for one level of the hotel, including a large mural as you exit the elevator on each floor and individual works in the rooms. So even if you are a regular at The MUSE if you stay on a different floor each visit you will enjoy discovering each artist’s talents and designs.

To make your stay at The MUSE even better is the fact that you don’t have to leave the hotel to experience two of Christchurch’s best hospitality offerings. Dainty in the lobby makes some of the best coffee in town, they’ve got you covered for breakfast and lunch, and their hot chocolates are a viral sensation that must be sampled at least once during your stay. Come late afternoon head to the top two levels of the hotel to visit Pink Lady Rooftop and take in the 360-degree views of the city over great cocktails and food.

Positioned in the heart of the city, The MUSE Art Hotel has everything you need and then some to make the most of your stay in Ōtautahi Christchurch. Impeccable service, creativity in spades and rooms you won’t feel like checking out of, you’ll find it all at The MUSE.
