Rocket isn’t really like anything else. Anyone that has stopped by their roastery on Barton Street for more than five minutes will know that. It’s been around for a long time, and they’ve cultivated a dedicated relationship with coffee farmers in Latin America and Africa, buying single farmer or farmer owned co-ops for good prices.
In 2016 Rocket started supporting ‘Cafe Y Miel’, an initiative with an organisation called Food 4 Farmers that sets up beehives for coffee farmers as an extra income - a project that is great for the environment as well as supporting the farmers who often struggle to make ends meet. 50 cents per KG of the coffee used in their espresso blend (called ‘Honey Fingers’) was sent over to support the project.
The roasters is a great spot to escape the ‘Tron’ - sunny, industrial and satisfying - the respite may even unravel your creative thoughts, and leave you walking out to face the world refreshed. Good for those who love the process and the smells that come with it - you can watch them roasting the coffee as you drink it. They sell brewing and espresso equipment in the cafe, and the cabinet provides a few nibbley bits to compliment your coffee.
There’s free WIFI and some good tables to work at and chat over. Rocket is always up to something new, and is well known in the region as a delicious, high quality blend with a heart for the people.
