Sometimes, nothing says thank you, I love you, or simply you’re a special person quite like a thoughtfully curated gift box. Petone’s Goody Goodness certainly brings the goods, and best of all, everything here is a gift to the planet as much as it is to your loved one.
Despite its strong online presence, its physical shop on Jackson Street is the beating heart of Goody Goodness. It’s a calm and welcoming space, with an undercurrent of quiet creativity. Don’t expect a traditional gift shop with bland, soulless items - it’s more akin to a creators’ hub, where lingering is encouraged and curiosity is rewarded. Nothing feels rushed or overfilled. Instead, there’s an invitation to look closely, ask questions, and hear the stories behind the work.
Goody Goodness was primarily born out of a frustration with generic, plastic-heavy gifting. That ethos still sits at the heart of the shop today. Everything here is chosen with intention, from locally made art and design to eco-conscious pieces that prioritise reuse and low waste. You’ll find upcycled art, shared materials among makers to minimise landfill, and even candle vessels repurposed from op-shop ceramics. Many items are exclusive to the store, and each comes with a story the team is genuinely excited to share.
You’ll find a veritable treasure trove of charismatic items, but standouts include GlaesDesign’s handcrafted glass earrings and rings, Adopt-a-bots (collectible steampunk robots each with a unique number), felt flower bouquets, hot-poker burned furniture pieces, original artworks, and sculptural lighting. Then there are the much-loved ‘goodness boxes’: fully customisable gift boxes you can curate yourself or leave in expert hands, available to send anywhere in New Zealand.
No matter who you’re buying for, you’ll leave Goody Goodness feeling lighter, brighter, and quietly inspired - exactly what gifting is all about.
