If you’re looking for great specialty coffee in the heart of Palmerston North, Sublime Coffee Roasters on Cuba Street is the place to be. Bright and communal, this small but mighty espresso bar is the local outpost of the Nelson roastery founded in 2005. The focus is the same here as it is there: quality in the cup and a friendly welcome that keeps regulars coming back.
The room has an easy buzz. People perch at the bar for a fast flat white, park up on the couches with a book, or chat with the team about what to brew next at home. The menu keeps to the point with consistently great espresso drinks, filter options and a small run of sweet and savoury cabinet treats from favourite local Palmy bakeries. If you’re coffee curious, there’s a neat range of beans and soft brew gear on the shelves, great for those just starting out or already down the rabbit hole.
The crew are great at breaking things down, so brewing at home feels easy. They run regular espresso and coffee training sessions, plus they can help with basic coffee machine troubleshooting and are happy to demystify grinders, pour-overs and everything in between, so you can start confidently dialling brews in on your own.
Community matters here. They have always backed local producers, keeping things personable, and the team has a knack for remembering regulars’ names. Whether you’re after a reliable morning coffee, a bag of beans for home or a simple intro to better brewing, this Cuba Street nook makes it easy.
