Good local cafes have a way of seamlessly fitting into a town’s rhythm, and Marton’s Three High Street Coffee House has quickly settled into that role. Equal parts morning ritual, long lunch spot, and Friday night favourite, it’s no surprise how this versatile little outfit has grown into one of the Rangitikei’s most beloved hangouts.
It’s achieved this by striking a careful balance between polished and approachable, inviting locals and visitors in for any occasion, whether a cruisy brunch or a relaxed tipple to kick the weekend off. Whatever time of day or night, the space carries a relaxed but elevated feel - a touch of boujee without ever tipping into pretence. There’s plenty of seating inside and outside, including the fantastic covered patio that’s just built for mingling. It’s the sort of cafe that wouldn’t feel out of place in a bigger city, while retaining the easy friendliness of small-town life.
The menu focuses on crowd-pleasers done properly. Great coffee is the anchor, backed by fresh, high-quality cabinet food that changes regularly. Signature dishes like hash stacks, bacon bene, and chicken and waffles arrive generous and beautifully presented, while gluten-free diners are thoughtfully catered for where possible. Friday nights bring a noticeable shift in pace, transforming the space into a cosy social hub with boutique New Zealand gins, a carefully curated wine list, and slushy margaritas paired with classic comfort food like loaded crisscut fries. And like any proper eatery, burger nights are a regular fixture, only helping to further build a local cult following.
Three High Street is proof that small towns don’t need to settle for ordinary - that great food, atmosphere, and a memorable experience can thrive anywhere, especially when built with heart.
