Geraldine Cheese Co. handcrafts small-batch cheese varieties in its petite factory in the heart of Geraldine town centre. This is where traditional cheese-making skills come together with innovative technologies, producing some fifty different cheeses.
The shop stocks an exclusive range of locally produced deli products as well as a few chosen homewares that complement the range of cheeses. Watch the Geraldine Cheese Co. cheesemakers at work through large windows as you browse the shop for everything needed for that perfect platter, and taste cheeses that are made right here, such as cheddar, Havarti and a variety of blues. The oldest cheese is a twelve-year-old cheddar, and a point of difference is the number of cheeses made from unconventional milk such as deer or sheep milk.
The factory at Geraldine Cheese Co. processes some 10,000 litres of various milk per week and churns out impressive amounts of cheese, which can be purchased here or at well-stocked supermarkets and delis around the South Island. Winners of plenty of awards, it’s no surprise that these cheeses also make their way to restaurants around the country. It’s fair to say that cheese making at Geraldine Cheese Co. is a true labour of love, and a visit to its flagship store is a must when passing through town.
