There is something quite special about stumbling across small, independent booksellers. Timaru Booksellers, in the heart of Timaru, is definitely one of those petite treasure troves for literature lovers.

Located in the upper end of Stafford Street, the inviting wee store is hard to miss. Just look for these big letters arched across the front window, ‘Timaru Booksellers’, and you’ll find yourself in the right place.

Timaru Booksellers celebrates local history and local authors as much as it does the big international names, and the neatly arranged bookshelves are filled with a huge range of titles. The store has an eclectic selection that reflects the owner’s depth of knowledge, from obscure translated sci-fi to poetry collections from independent publishers, to established best selling prize winning blockbusters.

Supporting independent publishers is important to Timaru Booksellers for the diversity they bring to the shelves and their importance to the book industry. They are also dedicated to tracking down hard-to-find books and creating special orders from around the virtual world. Hunting books is what they love doing.

The shop is full of surprises, and there are plenty of finds waiting for each visitor - the young and old and the fiction and non-fiction enthusiasts. A variety of quality notebooks and magazines can be found in store also, together with greeting cards and other bookshop staples.
