A brewery, tasting room and beer garden all under one roof, Rhyme x Reason is a sunny spot in the backblocks of Wānaka where some serious hoppy goodness is going on.

A mainstay for the local community, the folks at Rhyme x Reason have honed their skills since opening in 2017, expertly brewing the beers that delight regulars and newbies alike. Swing by for a sit-in pint or a tasting paddle, or if you’re after some cold ones to take home with you, choose a selection of ever-colourful cans from the Beer To Go fridge or fill up a rigger. If you haven’t already got one, glass riggers (growlers, flagons… whatever you want to call them) can be bought on site and refilled time and time again, both reducing waste and saving you a buck or two.

The macrocarpa interior, cosy armchairs and custom graffiti artwork (imagine a psychedelic, fear and loathing-esque mural) bring ambience and colour to this fully operational brew house. Don’t be surprised if you hear the canning machine running and get a whiff of the hoppy smells that you’d expect of a brewery; you are in one, after all.

With fourteen taps full flow at all times, this is obviously the place to come if it’s Rhyme x Reason beer you’re after. The outdoor beer garden soaks in the mid-afternoon sun, so take note if you’re after the prime (sun) time to visit. The Now Bao food truck sits out front and is open daily until about 8pm, whipping up epic filled baos, kimchi-loaded fries and other goodies.

Rhyme x Reason regularly hosts events and doesn’t discriminate when it comes to what activities are welcome here. (Or the number of patrons’ legs – it’s a very dog-friendly place.) Ultimately, they just want everyone to thoroughly enjoy their pint.
