Situated right in the heart of Auckland’s art district, Gow Langsford offers viewers an opportunity to hone their artistic appreciation into more specific areas away from mainstream exhibition. Literally sitting across from the Auckland Art Gallery, Gow Langsford’s newest space sits right on the corner of Kitchener and Wellesley Street East in a spacious NYC loft-esque environment which has plenty to offer in terms of contemporary art.
Set against the stark white interior, the captivating images highlight the minimalist approach this gallery has strived for with a lot of room for visitors to co mingle and offer intelligent opinion without blocking the view of someone at the back. The camouflaged white camera in the corner is not part of some big brother, grand scale, social art experiment, but there to remind you that what you’re looking at is extremely valuable and therefore made by the highly skilled. A second room which leads off the first offers an array of articles ranging from small sculptures to glitter embossed Zebra heads. This space has quite an assortment of pieces which can be used to cleanse the visual palette before approaching the main exhibition hall again.
