Finding the right hairdresser can be a tricky business. But when Miki opened Doki Hair Salon in December 2015, she became a dream match for many Ōtautahi residents.
Miki has several years of experience sitting next to the scissors in her stylist pouch. She worked as a hairstylist in Tokyo and Berlin before setting up her own salon in Christchurch and charming us all with her meticulous cuts and cheerful service. At Doki, all ages and all identities are welcome. Whether you’re eight or eighty, in for your regular trim or a bold transformation, you and your locks are in safe and highly skilled hands. Plus, Miki offers some of the most reasonable haircut prices around town – especially considering her expertise.
Inside, the salon space is as petite and sweet as Miki herself. The aesthetic is cute, crafty and full of character. While minimal, the decor has been thoughtfully considered, with pops of colour and quirky elements balanced out by natural textures and polished furnishings. The finishing touch, however? Miki and her one-of-a-kind sense of style (and smile!).
Located at the front of Space Academy, Doki is part of the small collective of businesses making 371 St Asaph Street a beloved local destination. We recommend timing your appointment towards the end of the day – a good excuse to follow it up with a pint and pizza next door.
