What do you get if you put art, history, gin and espresso under one roof? An eclectic melting pot like Fenton Art Collective in Taranaki. It’s the amalgamation of painter Jo Stallard and her partner, writer and poet Stuart Greenhill’s passions .

In 2016, the couple returned to their roots in Stratford in Taranaki after years of galavanting across Aotearoa and the world seeking out new experiences. This time, the pair were on the search for a historic building with the simple premise of opening an art collective to showcase Jo’s portrait art that would also function as their main abode. The original vision quickly evolved, and now visitors can come to Fenton Art Collective, grab a coffee or gin from their distillery, meander through the artworks and even chat to Jo about a commission in her studio upstairs.

Located in the striking heritage listed Egmont Chambers building, the couple has lovingly restored the original features and feel of the building making it a joy to walk around at your leisure. Fenton Art Collective is wonderfully creative and offers the chance to step into the world of two brilliant local creatives in Jo and Stuart. We suggest working up an appetite before you go so you can grab a bite there too but don’t expect the usual café muffins and scones. The offering is petite yet delicious with quinoa sandwiches and Irish Pot Pie.
