Gilt in Chancery Chambers is an inner-city brasserie with a lively, come-as-you-are kind of energy to it. Set within a historic building in the Auckland CBD, it leans into classic European brasserie style, but with a modern, social touch that makes it easy to drop in for a meal at any stage of the day.

The food stays close to brasserie classics, but there’s plenty of playful twists to keep things interesting. Crudo, steak frites and rich pasta all make an appearance, and their tomato schnitzel is a bit of a local favourite. Whatever you’re getting, the chefs here aren’t afraid to lean generously into butter and sauce.

There’s a noticeable shift in mood depending on when you visit. By day, it’s great for a quick lunch or a relaxed catch-up with friends. By night, things get a little more indulgent, with a buzzing dining room and bar that keeps the whole place humming. It’s just as suited to a spontaneous martini as it is to a proper dinner (and often, one becomes the other).

Drinks are a big part of the experience here, too. Martinis and sgroppinos have become staples, as well as their range of magnums and other larger bottles of wine – perfect for long lunches and group dinners. Housed right in the heart of the city and designed for both walk-ins and bookings, it’s a great option both when you’re planning a special occasion or just feeling spontaneous. Either way, every meal here is polished, lively and just a little cheeky.
