Based in Petone, Baylands Brewery and Taproom is a relaxed, welcoming space offering up a wide range of fresh beer and tasty food. It’s somewhere to go and hear a beer’s story, share in the passion and enjoy the brew while it’s at its freshest. Everything at Baylands is done with an emphasis on quality, something made evident from that very first sip.

The journey of Baylands Brewery started back in 2012, originally operating as a small-scale brewery from a garage under the house. Two years later, the garage was upgraded to their current Petone premises, and over the years the production of beer has increased almost tenfold. The site of the taproom was originally an aluminium anodizing plant (for over 40 years!) and it took a full team effort – whether it be building, painting or decorating – to open the taproom in late 2022 and get it to where it is today.

The modern, spacious taproom brings with it a tasty, accessible menu featuring tacos, burgers and fried chicken. Designed to be family friendly, even our littlest pals are well catered for with options such as chicken and chips or mac’n’cheese bites. Plus, the courtyard out front welcomes all four-legged friends. In something of a rarity for the Hutt Valley, Baylands has a well appointed function space with a capacity of up to 50 people - definitely check it out for your next event or gathering.

Throughout the journey of Baylands Brewery, one thing that remains constant is that they certainly know how to smash out an awesome IPA. Or ten. The flagship IPA, Woodrows Veto, has been brewed since day one and remains a staple in the beer rotation. Baylands were the 2021 winners of the Malthouse West Coast IPA Challenge and backed this up with a second place in 2022, and the Skull Cracker is a Double IPA with accolades of its own. For those after something with a bit of haze, the Offshore Bandit is a core range hazy that always goes down a treat.

Now turning their minds to cementing themselves as a world-class brewery, Baylands is only at the beginning of their wonderful beer journey.
