Brewed As is a lively gathering spot where people can connect over inventive food, specialty coffee, and a welcoming atmosphere that embodies the spirit of Mangawhai. What began as a humble café with a simple focus on great coffee has evolved into a sprawling eatery, set in a courtyard off the town’s main street. The team behind Brewed As have poured their hearts into shaping the eatery into a destination that locals are returning to, time and time again.

The menu at Brewed As is built around the fresh, high-quality ingredients Northland is known for and a bold fusion of Asian-inspired flavours. From brunch classics with a creative twist to inventive dishes highlighting the best local produce, such as the Asian inspired omelette and Benedict with yuzu hollandaise. In the evenings, the café shifts gears with a selection of shareable plates, offering a variety of flavours and textures perfect for exploring with friends. To round out the experience, the drinks menu includes boutique wines, craft beers, and inventive cocktails such as the Golden Ember: think sesame infused starward two fold whisky, tamari and Thai caramel, orange and aromatic bitters.

At the heart of Brewed As is a genuine passion for coffee. The café has partnered with Turning Point Coffee, a Whangārei-based roastery led by the legendary Stu Hargie. This example of dedication to excellence earned Brewed As recognition at the 2024 Savour Northland Awards, celebrating their commitment to hospitality and showcasing the region’s exceptional produce.

Brewed As is a place where you can slow down, savour the moment, and experience some of the highest quality ingredients and sense of community that Mangawhai has to offer. The eatery brings a fresh energy to Mangawhai - one that’s best enjoyed with good food, good drinks, and even better conversation.
