Ringawera Baker is a boutique artisan bakery in Matakana with a deep respect for French baking traditions and a uniquely Kiwi personality. The name Ringawera, meaning "hot hands" or "quick hands", reflects the heart of the bakery, the skilled hands that mix, shape, and bake every loaf. It’s known for producing some of the best breads and pastries in the region, and because we all know a great cup of coffee is just as important as a great loaf of bread, Ringawera proudly serves Ozone coffee, one of New Zealand’s most loved coffee brands.

Ringawera Baker’s journey began in 2008 on Waiheke Island, starting as a small backyard business specialising in pre-packaged baked goods, including its award-winning Lavash. As demand grew, the focus shifted to wholesale bread production, supplying cafes and restaurants across the island. In 2017, the bakery relocated to Matakana (along with its owners), opening a space in the heart of the Village. Nowadays the bakery is essentially a delicious smelling, extensive hole-in-the-wall (designed for takeaway only) located outside one of the country’s most popular markets. Many customers from those early days still visit, reminiscing on Ringawera’s beginnings and enjoying its ever-expanding selection of baked goods.

While the coffee is highly regarded as being consistently quality, it’s the French-style pastries that have made Ringawera a local favourite. The almond croissant, a best-seller (and admittedly not very French!), has earned a reputation of its own. Alongside the pastries, the bakery offers a wide selection of sourdough breads (don’t miss the organic rye), as well as baguettes, ciabatta, and focaccia. For those looking for something ready to eat, freshly filled focaccias and paninis with deli meats, cheeses, and salads make for the perfect grab-and-go meal.

Operating from a small but fast-paced space, Ringawera Baker is constantly evolving, adding new flavour ideas and product lines while staying true to its roots. With a presence at the Matakana Farmers’ Market and a permanent home near the market’s entrance, the bakery has become a cornerstone of the community, offering simple and delicious food without fuss. After all, as any good baker knows, you’re only as good as your last loaf of bread!
