Tucked away in the heart of Warkworth, Pete & Mary’s Eatery is a charming café that blends small-town warmth with a touch of modern sophistication. The eatery is the passion project of brother-sister duo Tim and Suz, who have spent over 25 years in the local hospitality scene. Their love for good food, community, and exceptional service is evident in every detail of the café. For Suz, the space holds special meaning, as the building has housed cafés for over two decades- and it was where she landed her first full-time job after leaving high school. Naming the café after their late grandparents, Pete and Mary, was a heartfelt tribute, honouring their grandfather’s love of food and their grandmother’s artistic influence in the area.
The interior itself is modern with wooden furnishings and plenty of greenery. A gorgeous French style window opens onto the tables out front, welcoming the outside elements in. Dog friendly and often sun-soaked, the outdoor tables are always popular, but there are only a few so it pays to be prompt.
Pete and Mary’s offers an inviting and relaxed atmosphere, where you don’t feel rushed but there’s always something interesting going on. It’s easy to feel right at home, which is exactly what Tim and Suz set out to achieve: somewhere that feels like a community hub for locals, and a go-to spot for visitors passing through.
Pete & Mary’s menu is packed with crowd-pleasers, from classic breakfast plates to wholesome lunch specials, all made with locally sourced ingredients. Their signature eggs benedict, served with house-made hollandaise and a crispy potato rosti, is a standout favourite among regulars. The café’s cabinet is always filled with an enticing selection of homemade sweet and savoury goodies, ensuring there’s something for every palate. Tim, Suz, and their team take pride in crafting meals that feel both comforting and refined, delivering a memorable dining experience every time.
