“Loved wine, married a chef, bought a shop.” Those are the words of Nadia Davidson, one half of Pembroke Wines & Spirits.
Both with backgrounds in hospitality (Nadia grew up in a hospitality family on the coast of the Black Sea, and her husband Troy was a chef in Wānaka then a head chef on super yachts), the pair met on the ocean and eventually dropped anchor in Wānaka to embrace the Central Otago lifestyle and channel their knowledge into all things vino.
Enter Pembroke Wines & Spirits, a boutique bottle shop that delivers more than you thought you ever needed. First off, it’s a shop, offering Central Otago favourites, great NZ craft beer, local and international gin and whiskey, a ‘Taste the World’ section boasting unique international treats such as Rioja, Malbec and Chablis Premier Cru, as well as vegan, organic and natural wines.
Second, it’s a Tasting Room. Not only can you sample the array of wines and cocktails, but you can also treat yourself to a gourmet platter while exploring a bespoke tasting paddle. The Tasting Room can be used for private parties and is frequented by several clubs, including skiers and golfers, as well as aspiring artists who make their creations while drinking a tipple and having a nibble. On the last Wednesday of every month, they host a tasting event with a theme, and you can even start a wine subscription or rent a Pembroke Picnic Pack to take on your Wānaka adventure.
The vibe at Pembroke Wines & Spirits is homey and welcoming. People are encouraged to pop in and read a book whilst having a wine, chat with their fellow wine connoisseurs, or catch up over a bite to eat. Nadia, Troy and the team will hunt down special orders for you and will even have your favourite drink freshly poured when you arrive for a tasting. Cheers to that.
