A coffee roastery, cafe and retail store all wrapped up into one, Boasters is a family-owned business getting Rotorua on a good buzz.
While perfecting a rich and nutty roast, owners Bob and Rachael Bell take a thoughtful approach to their coffee, and have created an environment that works to prioritise the planet and people at every turn. Compostable packaging, free coffee grinds for your garden and an onsite lending library are just a few small but mindful steps they’ve taken to reduce their footprint and build a strong community ethos.
Much like the place it calls home, the cafe invites in a calm and laid-back spirit with a theme of deep sea blues, lush greenery and a colourful mural that pays tribute to the erupting landscape and coastal lifestyle. There are plenty of pockets to sit and stay a while, whether you’re coming in with the kids, getting competitive over one of many board games on offer, or picking out a book and enjoying some solo time.
As expected, a cup of coffee here is supremely good, with the team of baristas using fresh beans direct from the next room paired with quality milk (from Volcanic Creamery or The Alternative Dairy Co) to turn your morning routine into something worth boasting about. Come hungry for the well-stocked cabinet, showcasing a range of quintessential kiwi recipes made in-house or picked up from a nearby supplier. From cheese scones, ginger crunch and cinnamon scrolls to BLTs, toasties and quiche, the kitchen does justice to the classics.
You’ll find Boasters at their home on Haupapa Street, as well as popping up at local events, or pouring from the coffee machines of cafes across Aotearoa. Not a Rotorua local? Not to worry. You can still order a bag of their Original Roast online to jazz up your at-home coffee experience.
