Everyone needs that bar where you can go and feel like yourself; non-pretentious, a few dark corners to hide in, perhaps a few big tables to dance on... Offering all that and more, Wonder Horse has established itself as the heart of Hamilton’s night scene with amazing service, a whole lot of soul, and a menu of magnificent cocktails.
The bar is set down an alley off Victoria Street, so you may need to look twice before you see it. From 5pm onwards these mixing geniuses are at work, pulling beers and pouring vinos for the thirsty people of Hamilton. They have a small menu of delicious bar food, with delicacies such as blue cheese wontons, sliders and edamame beans.
Wonder Horse opened in 2012 and has since become a Hamilton fixture; the place to go for good chats, group hangs or after dinner drinks. The first Wednesday of every month is Beer Club, where people gather to taste seven different craft brews (and a snack) all for the price of $15. Or perhaps the Whisky Club is more to your taste, ‘an adventure through the world of whisky’ on the third Wednesday of every month with a bit of added ‘chit chat and useless facts’.
The bar is set in a two-storey loft, so you can sneak upstairs and find a space to enjoy your drinks alone or with your posse. Closed from Sunday to Wednesday, you may find yourself hanging out for hump day because not only will you be over halfway to the weekend but at 5pm, Wonder Horse will open its doors.
