Small, fast-paced and a stone’s throw from the city centre, this café certainly lives up to its name. Mismatched wallpaper, retro chairs and Formica tables — a visit to Zippy will transport you back in time, and that’s surely one of the reasons that locals come here again and again. After all, a comfortable eatery should feel familiar.
Coffee Supreme is the bean of choice here, while the kitchen team serves up some of the nation’s favourite dishes (hello, nachos and mac ’n’ cheese). Chalked up on the menu behind the counter is also a range of burgers, wraps, salads and bagels. And it only makes sense to finish your meal off with something sweet from the counter.
Bright and vibrant with friendly staff, Zippy is an obvious local hangout for the very fact that it’s not trying to impress by being anything other than itself: a cosy, fun, neighbourhood café.
